STEPHEN, NB—Karen Ludwig, MP (New Brunswick Southwest) was proud to join the government this week in the tabling of the 2017 Federal Budget: Building a Strong Middle Class. Budget 2017 is the next step in the Government’s ambitious plan to make smart investments that will create jobs, grow our economy, and provide more opportunities for the middle class and those working hard to join it.
Here in New Brunswick, Budget 2017 will put skilled, talented, and creative people at the heart of a more innovative future economy – one that will create middle class jobs today and tomorrow
- In Budget 2016, the Government invested $149 million over two years for small craft harbour
infrastructure improvements. Proposing to provide an additional $5 million in 2017–18
- $37.5 million per year in funding to Destination Canada, Canada’s national tourism marketing organization.
- Investing in a broad range of infrastructure projects that meet the unique needs of rural communities – through an investment of $2 billion over 11 years.
Budget 2017 also is the first Federal Budget to be looked at through a gendered lens, and it’s first of its kind Gender Statement looks at how this budget affects women and children. As a member of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, Ms. Ludwig participated in the study that led to the inclusion of Gender Based Analysis in Budget 2017, and with it will make it easier for hard-working Canadians to find safe, adequate, and affordable places to live – with quality and affordable child care.
“Our government has worked hard to consult with Canadians, and we will continue to grow the Middle Class through smart investments in innovation and infrastructure” – Karen Ludwig (New Brunswick Southwest).
