Meet Karen Ludwig

Karen Ludwig comes to public life after a highly successful career in the halls of academic learning.

Twenty years of professional commitment to post-secondary education began in 1996 where at New Brunswick Community College in St. Andrews, Karen began as an instructor for 13 years. At NBCC she designed and taught international business and designed online courses while obtaining a Master of Education in Adult Education. As an instructor, her work as a coach and mentor was broadly recognized. While teaching at NBCC, Karen was the 2005 Recipient of the NBCC Employee Recognition Award.

In 2002 Karen earned her Certified International Trade Practitioner designation (CITP) from the Forum for International Trade Training in Ottawa.

It was while at NBCC that Karen joined the Faculty of Business Administration in the MBA Program of the University of New Brunswick-Saint John.  In 2009, she was nominated for the Allan P. Stuart Award for Excellence in Teaching at UNB. Karen also designed, developed and delivered curriculum for UNB’s Masters of Education Program in Fredericton.

In her roles of Director of Academic Affairs, followed by Associate Dean of Faculty Development at Yorkville University, Karen provided exceptional leadership to this highly developed group of faculty.  Her work at Yorkville U. was recognized by colleagues for its commitment to communication excellence and administration.

In 2012, the Faculty of Business at UNB presented Karen with its Departmental Award in Teaching Excellence for her teaching of International Trade in their MBA Program.

She concurrently pursued her PhD in Adult Education through the University of New Brunswick.  She has owned her own consulting company and worked as a business-training consultant.

It is from Yorkville University that Karen took the leap to enter federal electoral politics. On October 19, 2015, she was elected the Liberal Member of Parliament for the Federal Electoral District of New Brunswick Southwest.

Karen and her husband Andrew are long-time residents of Saint Andrews, New Brunswick where they are partners in both life and business. As entrepreneurs they have been successfully operating in St Stephen, New Brunswick since 2007.
